One more thing...

Just when you thought Alan Rickman was would be stuck playing Snape forever:

Something the Lord Made is a moving story of men who defy the rules and start a medical revolution. Their patients are known as the "blue babies" - infants suffering from a congenital heart defect that turns them blue as they slowly suffocate.

OK, now I go.

Bear with me...

I am going to ramble a bit.

Firstly: Huzzah for Friday! Double Huzzah for the holiday weekend! Triple Huzzah for , who as of last night is a new home owner! Happy Happy Joy Joy!

Secondly, this story about Kate Nolan, WWII Combat Nurse on Morning Edition today kicked my butt as I was coming in to work. Nothing like starting Friday morning with a good cry.

Thirdly, a few months ago I spoted  a really ugly little car driving down the road. I couldn't see the make or model, but finally I tracked it down. Let me appologize now to anyone reading this that owns this car. It is just plain funny looking.

Fourthly, A GIANT WHOOT! for the Shakespeare Free for All! How can you not love Free outdoor Shakespeare? Even better this season we are getting Much Ado About Nothing. Fab! I think I feel an evite coming on.

Fifthly (Is that a word? Actually, nevermind, I really don't care), ever wondered what you can do with all the old formal ware you have laying around? For you Ladies, there is the Glass Slipper Project!

Sixthly, yesterday I found Fat Free Cinnamon Vanilla Creme Coffee Mate. Yum!

Seventhly, are you an iPod Owner? Are you a lover of fashion? (Yes,   this means you!) Have I got a site for you. Dig the Monty!

Now for the Quote of the Day. I think we will go with another Buffy quote. It's friday and stuff.

'What part of punching you in the face do you not understand?'

Cicada

I went out to walk with Mom today and it finally happend. A cicada landed on me. Right smack on my boob. I knocked it off. I survived and the little critter survived so no harm done I guess.

Yesterday der_flounder was picking me up after work and I was shocked by what his employers saw fit to give him this time. Oh yeah, it was an iPod! Damn him. I can't even tell you how jealous I am. Techies get all the good stuff.

Bad news

The prosecuter has decided to proceed with the case against Micah. The good news is they are will to speak with the people who can speak for his whereabouts that evening. Maybe they will drop it? One can only hope...this thing has been dragging out for what feels like a lifetime.

On a more upbeat note, I am really looking forward to the long Memorial Day weekend. I am also excited about the new book club book Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson. I have not attended the discussions in awhile and I think this will be a good book to draw me back in.

Otherwise, I am just tuckered out. I have worked late 2 nights so far this week and I am dragging a bit.

Ben Folds

I got Ben Folds latest (though certainly not new) album in anticipation of the Rufus Wainwright/Ben Folds/Guster concert at the end of June. This new album is very quickly reminding me of why I was an early adopter of  the Ben Folds Five. And trust me, Ben isn't hurting for lack of the "Five" which we really only two anyway. Long and short of it is, Ben Fold's Rockin' the Suburbs is good stuff. Granted I love boys at pianos, i.e. Rufus.

And now I whine: Is it truly only Tuesday? I had a late night yesterday working an event. I have had a lot of those of late. Anyway, lack of sleep has left me with a headache that I am currently battling with tylenol.

This Weekend

This weekend was chocked full! Friday night meant gathering up stuff at home and heading for  's place. I had a long tough day at work and was very happy to walk out of the office at 4:30. 1 cheesesteak, some mindless T.V. and a couple of hugs later, I was down for the count!

Saturday I headed over to Sandy Spring to get my long awaited facial. Heaven! It was in Sandy Spring that I discovered the cicadas. I had honestly thought that people we over reacting a smidge over the cicadas. I have seen very few up until that point and hadn't heard much of them either. I was wrong. Sandy Spring and Olney are overcome with a loud whirring buzz. Mi Mama's backyard is littered with them. Her yard doesn't hold a candle to what I saw Sunday night, but I will get to that later. So I visited with Mi Mama, critiqued her latest painting project and headed back to G-town, though not until after getting my car cleaned inside and out. Ah the joys of a freshing vacuumed car!

Saturday evening, Flounder and I went to the mall and checked out the new Apple store. <insert drool here> Then we headed down to VA to catch Shrek 2 with Bambi, Yoda and KT. We grabbed some mediocre mexican food before hand. The movie was very enjoyable. I won't throw in any spoilers for those still waiting to see it (Red, That's you!). I will say the general theme of "You should be allowed to be who you are and love who you want" is a good one. Visually terrific and all that jazz.

Sunday. Slept in late, and had brunch at Jasper's. Yummy. I have not been eating well lately and am rededicating myself today to making good choices. That's what Monday's are for right? Anyway upon returning from brunch Flounder and I discovered that the power was out. I have never heard that apartment so quite. No A/C, Dishwasher, Clothes washer or dryer,  TV or COMPUTERS running. There is always the humm of the harddrives in that place is nothing else, but it was all silent. For a moment we thought our grand cleaning plans were tossed asunder. But we bucked up and did what we could with out electricity. The floor still needs to be vacuumed and the laundry needs to be finished, but the place is looking pretty good. If only my own bedroom was so tiddy!

Around 4:30 I went to J.Wo's parents house to babysit for her neice S.J. I hadn't seen her in a year and a half and she is an active smart 3 year old these days. S.J.'s mom brought pizza (who knew 3 year olds liked olives?) and videos (Sesame Street, Dora and Veggie Tales). Yea, 3 y/o don't just still and watch videos...they play imaginative and wacky games WHILE the video play in the background. It was an active night. S.C. was very well behaved. All was well. Except....

Their front yard looked like thousands of cicadas had commited suicide on their lawn.

I have never seen so many bugs in my life. Large wiggleing, flying and often dead and crunchy bugs. EVERYWHERE! Not in the house of course, but aparently keeping them off the front walk is an uphill battle like noneother! Wonderful people, bad bugs.

And now it is Monday. My skin is radiant, my karma is clean (babysitting, clearly!) and today is going to be another long day. Another hotel event. Non-whoot. On the upside, Flounder has signing for the new house Friday. Hurrah!

Mighty early

I have an event this morning which put me in the office far to early. Also, I forgot how light the traffic is at this time of the morning on a Friday so I zipped right in. Now I am killing a few minutes. Wow Whee, am I tired. I am looking forward to leavign a smidge early though. I am ready to get this weekend started. In addition to babysitting Sunday evening, and going to see Shrek 2 Saturday night, and my facial Saturday morning, I have a little pile of projects I want to tackle. Clearly I will be doing all these things in shorts, given that we will be rating in the 90s this weekend. You read right. Thankfully for my little wightloss (still lingering in the 6 pound area) my shorts actually fit. They were a tight squeeze back in March.

Praise the Lord.

Need!

I am very excited about getting a facial at the spa Saturday morning. It has occured to me that what I really need however is a haircut. I just can't get my hair to do anything good these days. V. bad. And it is to short to fake it. No more ponytails for this kid.

I am pleased to report that the mountain that used to be my desk is back to being a molehill. :)

I guess I really don't have anything else to say except that I am sad for the loss of Tony Randall.

Mountain out of a Molehill

There is a Mountain of paper on my desk where their used to be a molehill. I truly don't know how this happened! When I I say mountain, I don't mean a figuative "mountain", or a neatish stack of paperwork, I mean a mound of disorganization. Have you ever had to put the pad you are writing on ON TOP of a pile of paper to guest a writing surface? Yeah, that's me.

I am going to have to create new, organized piles on the counter in the work room of all this junk and tackle it pile by pile. Lucky me.

In other pitiful news, I am attempting to wear my new sandles again today. They gave me blisters last time. I might get blisters this time too. I think I will add a few more bandages to protect myself more completely.

Yay! Bambi sent out an evite for Shrek 2! V. excited. Also going to make a facial appointment for Saturday morning. My skin has lost it's luster and I want it back!

Broke no more!

I am happy to announce that my Uncle has finally fixed my car! Saturn quoted me $1200 for the repair. Cost of actual parts and uncle's work? $37.50! I will be sending him a thank you gift that will bump up the over all cost a bit, but seriously? The whole thing will cost less than $100. Quite a deal. I drove me car for the first time in three weeks on Saturday. It felt REALLY good to be behind the wheel. My he been wonderful carting me around for the last month. While I am grateful, I am really happy to have the extra freedom back that having a car brings. Woot!

I attended a baby shower on Sunday and celebrated my brothers birthday (which is really tomorrow). Both celebrations were lovely. Mi Mama and I made ice cream (Rich Chocolate Malt) to go with Micah's birthday cake. Double yumm!

My boss got married this weekend. Whoo Hoo for M&T! She and he huband must have dropped in the office yesterday because I have a dozen pink roses on my desk left over from their reception. Beautiful!

Because M is on her honeymoon, and another co-worker is in Europe this week (and last week for that matter), we are low on staff around here. Infact, I need to take a serious look at my to do list! I am covering an event tonight and probably won't get home until after 9:00. Icky! Wish me luck!

The Doll House

I am feeling quite fuzzyheaded today. I went to bed nice and early last night hoping to put the spring back in my step. I was seriously asleep by 9:00. There is however, no spring. Still congested, I ran out of tissues both at home, and in the office last night. Today I am carrying around a roll of TP. Very nice touch I thought.

There is an empty box of tissue on my desk. When I noticed it this morning I was suddenly reminded of how I used to turn old tissue boxes into little doll houses when I was little. Has anyone else done that? I always has misc. small dolls (not counting all of the My Little Ponys and Strawberry Shortcakes I played with). I would make furinture for them out of big pink erasers and folded TP. Maybe I was the only one? Say it isn't so!

All by myself....

My co-works have left me all to my lonesome in the office today. I am holding down the fort. This could mean one of two things. 1) I will have a really quite day, where I can tackle all of the stuff on my plate. OR 2) All of the requested that would normally go to the three of them will be coming to me and I will be totally overwhelmed. It's a mystery I am not excited about solving.

Reporting on WW. Not last week, but the week before I lost a bit of my focus. That was the week I bought the new scale. I still don't know if I went up, down or what so we are letting that week be a wash. Last week when I was sick I lost 4 pounds (most of that water). I did eat pretty well however, so now that I am rehydrated it looks like I actually only lost 1 pound for real. Since I am still getting better, I am going to guess that I hold steady this week. My goal for the next few days is going to be water, water, water. This weekend I discovered the JOY that is the Smart Ones Big Chocolate Ice Cream Bar. Only 1 point people! It's not the greatest ice cream in the world, but for only 1 point, it is WELL worth it.

Other news? Well, I have been horrified by the state the news lately. If it isn't horrible brutality in the Iraqi prisons, it retaliatory attacks, global warming, impending cicada plagues, shootings...the news around here is just terrible lately. I need a really good uplifting story on the nightly news.

Those Crazy Christians!

I found out about this wacky Christian website from Yahoo's Oddly Enough. I find this website HIGHLY entertaining. I think the Mystery Worshiper might be my favorite part. Finally, some Christians with a sense of humor!

Ship of Fools

Enjoy!

On the mend

I am still coughing and blowing my nose a good deal, but it is NOTHING like last week. I finally feel like I am really getting better! You know what really helped? The Vaporizer. Everytime I get the sniffles Mi Mama reminds me of how much the vaporizer helped me when I was a little kid with chronic sinus issues. Why do I always resist? My own little rebelian? I think next time I feel like being a rebel, I am going to dye my hair a crazy color instead of resisting helpful health tips.

Last night the Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time was on ABC. This was one of my most favorite childhood books. How was the movie? Did I mention it was the Disney adaptation? I will say it wasn't bad. The book was written in a time before desktop computers and video games, so it was a little odd to see the story updated. Meg didn't have the right sort of angst in my mind and Calvin was a little flat. The chemistry was nil. Charles Wallace was pretty good. The Dad and the twins were totally off. I was glad that they really didn't cut out any of he story, even if I didn't neccassarily agree with their interpretation. The whole thing was surprisingly un-dramatic. But what could I expect? It's never the same on screen as it is in your imaginiation.

I Can't believe hot freaking HOT it is. Helllllloo! It's May people, and in the 90's!?!?! Unacceptable!

I'm BAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCK!

I am back from my first real business trip. Atlanta was nice, as far as I could tell anyway. The event I was working was a total success. Sadly, while I was in GA, I came down with the extremely icky cold/virus/plague that he was carrying. I have been on the couch, hacking and blowing my nose since Tuesday afternoon. I still feel crappy. And I have given in. Tomorrow I am going back to work and I am going to try to get a doctor's appointment (or at least an antibiotic) Monday or Tuesday. I am honestly still so exhausted and winded, I am not sure if I am going to make it through the day tomorrow. I will do my best.
