Things I Should Have Blogged About This Weekend
Over the weekend Mi Mama and I had an indulgent afternoon at the Red Door Spa. We both got facials and then Mi Mama had her haircut while I had a pedicure. This was no ordinary pedicure where you come away with smoother feet and pretty nails. This was the specialty Olive Oil pedicure, as described from the spa's website:
A truly pampering experience. This luxurious treatment features an olive oil salt scrub and foot and leg mask to exfoliate and hydrate. Your feet and legs are then massaged with a unique cream that liquefies into a gel, finished with a revitalizing satin spray gel to produce soft, silky skin.
They weren't lying! When the woman performing the pedicure, BJ, was done she had entirely resurfaced my feet. They were like brand new. The nail color she used is called Chevy Chase Brick (oh, how I love local stuff!) and I was amazed. So was Flounder. I don't think my feet have been this nice since I was 14. Thank you BJ!
The next day, Mi Mama and I went car shopping she she bought her first new car in eleven years. The Subaru Forester she bought is terribly nice and is easily the fanciest vehicle she has ever purchased. Since the house shopping is not going very quickly, it is nice that she have something new to enjoy now. It was not a thoughtless purchase either. Her last car was on it's last legs and required duct tape to keep the driver side window up. Sad really.
When I wasn't car shopping or being pampered I was working on a very challenging paper for my English 102 class. Lord was that a bear. I was finally able to turn it in yesterday and I am very happy to be free of it. Special thanks to Flounder for research help and Maryment for editing my grammatically suspect paper! There is another toughy on the way, but for the next few days I have a repreive.
Finally, it is cherry blossom time again. The beautiful trees planted just infront of my office are blooming bountifully. Amazingly, the tree in our front yard is awash in pink flowers. Our tree looked dead most of the winter and I was a little surprised it is alive at all (I think some termites had a go a few years ago) but that tree has a live force that just won't quit and blooms each year all the same. Go Tree Go!

Commuter finds something missing on way to Washington
Thursday, March 23, 2006WASHINGTON (AP) -- Commuters racing to catch the train typically forget things in the car -- keys, wallets, briefcases. But a baby daughter?
That's what happened Thursday just north of Washington, police say.
"Dad forgot baby was in the car, parked the car, got on the Metro," said Lucille Baur, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery County, Maryland, Police Department.
"I don't know exactly when he got the memory flash, but he was in D.C. when it was the horrible defining moment, 'Oh my goodness, I think I've left my child back in my car,' " Baur said.
At that point, she said, Jonathan Sander got off the southbound train and onto a northbound one, returning to the Shady Grove Metrorail station about 12 miles north of Washington.
By that time, other commuters had noticed the 71/2-month-old girl in the back seat of the car, firefighters had opened the locked door and the child had been taken to a hospital as a precaution.
She was reunited there with her mother.
"Child Protective Services was comfortable with releasing the child back to the mom," said Baur. "We all believe that the child was not intentionally left in the car."
Sander, described as "terrified, embarrassed," was charged with leaving a child under 8 unattended in a car or building. He could face a fine of up to $500 and 30 days in jail.

Blogable
In the last few months I have been neglecting this space. No more! As of today at least I have lots of good progress to report on. Since I have so much to tell, I will work chronologically.
Thursday - I embarked on a whirlwind 22 hour trip to New York City. In order to arrive in time for my meeting on time I was forced to rise and shine at 2:30 am. It very nearly killed me. The luxurious sedan that picked me up and transported me to Union Station made the painful hour a little more bearable. Thank God for the Acela Quite Car. I heart. My meeting was productive and I learned a lot about an area of our business which I was previously ignorant of. After dinner with the team at a mediocre new French restaurant in Rockafeller Center. I rushed back to catch me train back home. Rolling into bed at 12:30 am was akin to heaven. The trip was good, but I am glad this kind of pace is not my regular routine.
Friday - Flounder and I both took the day off to accomplish the things that can only really be done on a weekday. Flounder set up appointments to have a plumber and an electrician in to check out some issues we were having in the basement (which would soon be Mi Mama's living space). I set a schedule for myself to knock some of the wedding To Do items off this list. I looked forward to sleeping in but alas, it was not to be. The plumber called at 7:30 am to report that he would arrive in an hour. Damn him! Assuming he might need to shut off the water once he arrived, we sprung into action, getting showered and ready for the day. Upon setting off I met with the seamstress who will be making the much needed alterations on my wedding dress. She was a doll, and made me feel much more confident that YES! I will be able to wear my too-small dress. Bless her, she made my day. After leaving my gown in her capable hands I practically floated to my car. I went to the county court house and purchased our wedding license and then stopped by Kinko's to sign off on the final proof of our wedding invitations. I returned home feeling accomplished and very pleased. By the end of the day, we had brand new outdoor lights in the front of the house and the basement was twice as bright. Flounder and I were so happy we decided to go to a movie to celebrate our productivity. We saw V for Vendetta which I would very much recommend. Entertaining, moving, and thought provoking. Certainly worth seeing. Good Day.
Saturday - We moved a little slower on Saturday. I did manage to pick up the finished invitations and purchase postage which was a major goal for me weekend. Flounder worked on tidying his "office" aka the Server Room. In between episode of Cash in the Attic, we received cars full of Mi Mama's stuff and moved it into the basement. Lord does that woman own a lot of things. I am sure anyone who has helped someone move from a large space to a small space can relate. By the end of the day, all of Mi Mama's possessions had arrived and she did she. Mi Mama is now in residence.
Sunday - After a very good nights sleep for all involved, Flounder, Mi Mama and I traveled around MoCo with remarkable speed. We visited Ikea, The Apple Store, and Safeway before returning home with quite a haul. While Mi Mama and I made dinner, Flounder got Mi Mama's new 14" iBook G4 set up. Mi Mama and I stuffed, sealed, labeled and stamped the wedding invitations. Also Micah swung by to pick up a few items and check Mama's new digs. A delicious meal was had, the internet was pursued for Gettysburg properties and Mi Mama's new Ikea clothing rack was assembled. What a day. I was beat.
Today - And today I was back in the office.
Final Analysis: I think we will do just fine with Mi Mama in the house as long as everyone keeps their bounderies in line. Despite the chaos of moving so many boxes into the basement, I think we are organizationally ahead ofthe game for the week. I am really happy to have so many wedding related projects completed and I am feeling better about the status of things. In general, life if pretty grand, I just need to keep my eye on the prize.

Goodbye Social Life
I know, my social life wasn't all that bustling to begin with, but between now and the second week in June it will officially be dead. Previous obligations aside (like theater events with J.Wo) I highly doubt I will be making any additional forays into society. Why is that, you ask? Because if I take on one more action item, responsibility, or calendar event I might just explode. Would you like to see the run down? I will oblidge!
1) This weekend Mi Mama and crew will be re organizing all the stuff in our basement in order to create a new living space for her. This will easily take several hours (there is a lot of stuff) if not an entire day.
2) Saturday Mi Mama and I taking a drive into the city to pick up the mini fridge for previously mentioned new living space from someone she found on craigslist.
3) I have to finish laying out the invitations for the wedding (why did I think I could do this?!) before Friday of next week, so that I can have a sample weighed for postage. These babies need to go out in the next two weeks.
4) I need to can at least another 20 jars of jam and then label and ribbon all 130 or so jars.
5) I need to attend no less than 3 fittings in order to alter my wedding dress, oh and did I mention I need to lose 30 pounds so that it might fit?
6) Oh right, and I have a 8 page research paper to write. I need to have a rough draft by this coming Tuesday and I still have more research to do.
7) Have a mentioned that people are bailing out my department like rats from a sinking ship?
8) I need to obtain a marriage license.
9) I have to get my passport photos taken and re-apply from a passport on Friday.
10) I still need to make decorations, a banner and placecards...
And of course that is not really the end of the list. Don't mind me I am just spazzing out. I am sure it will all be fine, right? RIGHT?!?!
